When it comes to contact lenses out in the field it is generally a personal preference as to which lenses are best suited to you.

However, there is some general consensus amongst combat personnel who are currently in the hot dusty climate of the Gulf area, as to which lenses are more suited to this terrain than others.

Firstly, Soft Contact Lenses are the preferred type of lens as Gas Permeable Hard Contact Lenses are virtually impossible to cope with due to the amount of dust from sandstorms, choppers and vehicles. Gas Permeable Hard Contact Lenses need removing and cleaning and the fine dust that tends to get every where, scratches them making them useless.

Most military personal take a really good supply of Daily Disposable Soft Contact Lenses with them and take their glasses as back up. With Daily Disposable lenses you dont have the hassle of storing and cleaning them. Just use them, then throw them out. However, the downside to daily lenses and monthly lenses that need to be stored overnight is that they need to be inserted daily and your hands need to be clean to prevent eye infection although a small bottle of hand wash should alleviate this problem if you need to remove a lens and rinse it before insertion into the eye.
